Here's some great news you might have missed: the hotly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is much closer to releasing than you were probably expecting.
I'm sure most of us are used to incredibly long waits for modern RPGs. With four years between Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, it's reasonable to assume the trilogy's climatic chapter won't be with us until 2028 at the earliest. However, it could well be landing before that.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Is Full Steam Ahead
The not-too distant future sounds good to us

In an excellent interview with VGC back in October, Final Fantasy 7 Remake's co-director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that work on the third and final entry in the trilogy is coming along well, and that it could be with us sooner than we expected.
He explained:
"We're working really hard on the third game in the Remake series at the moment. It’s coming along really well. I’ve got in my head the vision now, the gameplay structure, the gameplay experience, the core experience, and it’s looking in a really good state.
It’s something really satisfying that gamers can get their teeth into, and it’ll be just a brilliant experience that it really should be and has to be. So we’re going to work on that, brush that up even further, and then deliver it in the not-too-distant future. You really can look forward to that climax of the series, and it’ll be exactly what you want it to be. So don’t worry about that. It’s coming, and it’s just as good as you think it is. I’m very confident in the game that I’m making there."
It's also worth noting that the trilogy's other director, Tetsuya Nomura, confirmed back in September of this year that Square Enix has already decided on release timing for the game.
"Things are moving along really smoothly, and the release timing has already been decided,” he said. “We’re moving forward according to that schedule right now, so please rest assured and be patient.”
By all accounts, it sounds as if Square Enix has a strong game that's ahead of schedule. I grant you this involves some reading between the lines, but I think we've cause to be cautiously optimistic.
The Trilogy Has Been Full Of Twists
Who knows what's coming next?
Even if you know the Final Fantasy 7 story better than you know your own family, there's no way any of us can predict how this trilogy will end. After all, Rebirth went off and completely did its own thing, telling an alternate story with the same beloved characters from the 1997 original.
There's still loads we don't know about the next game in the Remake series, but I'd put money on a 2027 release window at this point. Late 2026 might be just a little too optimistic. Oh, and while we're betting, I'd also like to reiterate how certain I am that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is going to officially be called Final Fantasy 7 Return. Watch this space.
