The MCU’s Blade movie has had a rough go at things since it was officially announced over five years ago at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, but after years of turmoil, the film just received yet another devastating update. While plenty of stars, such as Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo, have been attached to star in Blade at various points, the only two remaining cast members are Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth, who have been cast as Blade and Lillith. During a recent interview with Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused podcast to talk about Frankenstein, Goth was asked if she had anything new to share about the MCU’s Blade movie.

“I don’t know what’s going on with that. I think that they want to make it, and it’s such an important film for them that they’re taking their time with it. I really don’t have any information. I don’t know why it’s taken the time that it has. We will see. Yeah, we will see.” Goth previously said she still had faith in the movie earlier this year, but it sounds like her views have changed slightly. The outlook for Blade gets bleaker by the day.

Goth did go into detail about how far she made it with Blade, which included a costume fitting and even a screen test with Mahershala Ali. “The furthest that it got with me is that I went — I auditioned for that too actually — and I flew to Atlanta, and we did a chemistry test between Mahershala [Ali], and we did a costume fitting and a wig fitting, and I was very excited in the direction that it was going. It was very cool. And Mahershala had such an interesting take on it. He was great. And then it just unraveled from there, unfortunately.”

Marvel Is Focusing on Bigger Projects Than Blade Right Now

The two biggest projects on the slate for Marvel right now are Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. The first, starring Tom Holland, will be released in theaters on July 31, 2026. The latter will premiere on December 18, 2026, barring further delays. Blade was likely expected to have a role in future Avengers movies when it was first announced back in 2019, but with the project stagnating and still no appearances from the day walker in live-action, these plans have likely been scrapped.

Stay tuned to Collider for more potential updates and coverage of the MCU’s Blade movie.
