NASSAU, Bahamas — After suffering another defeat in the Ryder Cup – on home soil this time – Team USA is in need of a dynamic leader to try to end its losing drought on foreign soil. Could that man be 15-time major winner Tiger Woods?

“No one's asked me about it,” he said on Tuesday during his press conference ahead of the Hero World Challenge at Albany Club.

When a reporter volleyed back, “I’m asking you about it,” he smiled that big Tiger smile and simply replied, “No one’s asked me about it.”

Woods, who turns 50 later this month, hasn’t played on the PGA Tour since July 2024 due to injuries and six weeks ago underwent another back surgery. He acknowledged that he was asked about leading the U.S. team at this year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black but declined because he was busy in his role as a player director on the PGA Tour’s board of directors. That included negotiations with PIF, which so far have amounted to nothing, and the process that led to the eventual hiring of Brian Rolapp as the Tour’s first CEO. Woods made eight appearances in the Ryder Cup between 1997 and 2018. He also served as a playing captain for the U.S. side at the 2019 Presidents Cup. Keegan Bradley was selected by the PGA of America to serve as 2025 U.S. captain in his stead.

While Woods offered little insight whether he’d want the job in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland, he did confirm that he was locked in on this year’s Cup.

“I watched pretty much all of it and was talking to the players and the captains involved in it, everyone involved on the U.S. side,” he said.

Sounds like it is about time someone at the PGA reach out to Tiger and at least ask him whether he’d be willing to lead the U.S. side as it attempts to win an away match for the first time since 1993.
