Emily Henry’s best-selling romance novel, titled People We Meet on Vacation, is being adapted by Netflix and has officially launched a new trailer featuring the adaptation’s stars, Tom Blyth and Emily Bader, ahead of its release on January 9.
The trailer shows Blyth as Alex and Bader as Poppy, and the official synopsis reads:
"Directed by Brett Haley, People We Meet on Vacation stars Tom Blyth and Emily Bader as free-spirited Poppy and routine-loving Alex, who have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?"
Henry’s original book became a pop culture phenomenon and is the first film adaptation of one of her novels. The book, published in 2021, debuted at the top of the New York bestseller list. Haley will be directing the rom-com alongside writer Yulin Kuang (Kissing in the Rain).
Henry recently spoke to Netflix and stated there will be differences in the adaptation that she’s “really excited for readers to see.” She continued and added:
"We’ve moved a lot of the book from Palm Springs to Barcelona, so there’s some fun new set dressing that they haven’t already experienced. But more than that, I think it’s these added scenes that were used to do, like a truncated version of stuff that happens in the book.
So that means we get new dialog between Poppy and Alex, new moments, new jokes, new beats of affection. And it’s kind of just like we get extra pieces of them, and I really think that the readers are gonna just like eat that up."
Blyth is known for his roles in Billy the Kid and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Alongside the role in People We Meet on Vacation, the actor will also be appearing in Watch Dogs and A Farewell to Arms.
Bader most recently starred in Prime Video’s My Lady Jane, but unfortunately wasn’t renewed for a second season. She’s also known for Fresh Kills and Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. Netflix’s adaptation of Henry’s novel also stars Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien Laviscount, Miles Heizer, Jameela Jamil, and Lukas Gage.
Netflix’s adaptation of Emily Henry’s People We Meet on Vacation will premiere on the streaming service on January 9, 2026.
