Nik Bonitto is first Bronco since Von Miller to accomplish this feat

In the Denver Broncos' win over the Washington Commanders, pass rusher Nik Bonitto replicated a feat last accomplished by his idol, Von Miller.

With one sack during the game, Bonitto became the first Bronco since Miller to have consecutive seasons with double-digit sacks. In 2024, Bonitto had 13.5 sacks; currently, Bonitto sits at 10.5 sacks on the year, tied for sixth-most in the league.

Bonitto spoke on his feat after the game. “Yeah, that’s big time, man," said Bonitto. "I mean, getting 10 sacks in this league isn't easy. Just finding ways to be effective with the quarterback, finding ways to be disruptive during the game is always my main goal coming into the year. But being able to reach 10 again is really special for me.”

Bonitto has idolized Miller since he was a child. "Shoot, I can remember when I was real young, in middle school probably, watching him going against Tom Brady in the conference championship game," Bonitto said of Miller earlier this season. "He has like three sacks, an interception, and I'm just going crazy. I'm like, 'Von's the GOAT.' There's so many special moments he had in his career that I remember watching as a young kid, and I kind of was an honorary Bronco fan (because of him)."

After the game, Bonitto tried to share the moment with Miller, but was unsuccessful. " I was the first person that tried to go find him after the game, but I think he kind of left a little bit early," Bonitto said. "But, we'll find ways to get in touch later.”

Bonitto's Broncos now sit at 10-2, leading the AFC West going into the final stretch of the regular season.
