Interim head coach Mike Kafka informed reporters on Friday that Jameis Winston will once again be under center when the Giants (2-9) take on the Detroit Lions (6-4) at Ford Field in Detroit in Week 12.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement"Jaxson's still in the protocol, so as a result, he'll be out for this Sunday's game," Kafka said. "He's just in the protocol, and he's just working through that phasing of it. So, based on the testing and the results, we're declaring him out for this week.
"The doctors handle that protocol. I have nothing to do with that. Where he's at, that all goes through the doctors, the independent doctor as well. So, they make those determinations on where he's at."
The Giants were hopeful that Dart would be available for this week's game, but apparently, his condition is worse than first thought. Kafka said that Dart, who practiced on a limited basis in a non-contact red jersey, looked normal in drills but then did not pass the required tests to clear the protocol.
Dart sustained the concussion two weeks ago in the Giants' loss to the Bears in Chicago.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWinston started last week's 27-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers, completing 19 of 29 passes for 201 yards with no touchdowns and a game-ending interception. He rushed three times for 10 yards and a touchdown.
The pointspread has jumped two full points as a result of this news from Lions -10.5 to Lions -12.5.
