FOXBOROUGH — Having a mobile quarterback always poses some risks because when they leave the pocket, they are facing some big defenders who will stop at nothing to get them down. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and Giants rookie Jaxson Dart both fall into that category.

And there was one moment in particular that had everyone shaking their head during Monday night's matchup between the two teams.

In the first quarter, Dart ran out of the pocket and headed down the sideline, trying to stay in bounds to get a few extra yards. But Christian Elliss wasn't going to let that happen, executing a huge hit on Dart that knocked the quarterback off his feet and had him flying out of bounds.

Upon first glance, it wasn't clear if the quarterback was in or out of bounds, but on the replay, it showed that he was trying to stay in rather than going out and avoiding the hit. And because of that, it was deemed legal.

After the game, head coach Mike Vrabel detailed how this was something he used as a learning opportunity for Maye.

"It's a weekly reminder to the quarterback, our quarterback -- we show them every week, I wouldn't get too cute over there by the sidelines," he told reporters after the game. "It happens every week."

And Maye seemed to get the message, putting a bigger emphasis on sliding in key moments during the game when he was scrambling out of the pocket.

"I think it's something that's been across the league that has showed up with quarterbacks near the boundary or near the sideline just kind of relaxing," Maye explained. "And I think I learned last year, the Chargers I had one on that same sideline over there. I got smacked on the sideline. So just be smart and know you've almost got to accelerate or get down or do something over there."

The Patriots quarterback was also asked if Vrabel said anything to him specifically after that play.

"I don't think he needed to," he responded. "You heard the hit from the sideline. I think everybody in the stadium knew."
