EL PASO, Texas — (KTSM) The NCAA released its first men’s basketball NET rankings of the 2025-26 season on Monday.
Here’s a look at where UTEP and New Mexico State landed on the rankings.
New Mexico State
New Mexico State, led by head coach Jason Hooten, landed 70th in the first NET rankings of the season.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Aggies are off to their best start in more than 50 years as the team is 6-0. The last NM State team to begin a season this fast was the 1969-70 Final Four team.
NM State has the highest rankings out of all the Conference USA teams at this point of the season. Sam Houston is second at 78th.
NMSU is 2-0 against non-division one teams and 4-0 against division one teams. That includes wins over in-state rival New Mexico, Samford, UC Irvine, and Georgia State.
NM State looks to stay perfect when it takes on South Alabama in Katy, Texas on Tuesday.
UTEP
UTEP is ranked 312th in the first NET rankings of the season. The Miners are the lowest ranked team in Conference USA at this point of the season. Missouri State is the team ranked above them at 297th.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementUTEP is 3-4 with all three of its wins coming against non-division one teams. That includes a narrow 84-83 overtime win against Division III St. Thomas (TX) at the Don Haskins Center on Nov. 19.
UTEP has lost to LMU (143 in NET), Utah State (22 in NET), William & Mary (71 in NET), and UAB (98 in NET).
UTEP, currently on a two-game losing streak, will take on Seattle U on Sunday, Dec. 7 in Seattle, Washington.
