Amazon MGM’s new series is dominating streaming charts around the world, but it’s far from the first time the story of Robin Hood has been told. 15 years ago, Russell Crowe reunited with his Gladiator director, Ridley Scott, for Robin Hood, the historical epic following Robin Longstride and his legendary quest to lead an uprising against the crown that shifts the balance of power in the world. Amazon has now taken its turn at remaking the classic tale of Robin Hood, this time recruiting former Game of Thrones veteran Sean Bean to star. The series is currently #1 around the world on Amazon MGM+.
Amazon MGM’s new Robin Hood series is streaming exclusively on Amazon MGM+, and it’s not available to watch on Prime Video. The first four episodes of the show are out now, and new episodes will be released every Sunday until the Season 1 finale on December 28. In addition to Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood (2025) also stars Connie Nielsen as Elanor of Aquitaine, Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham, and Steven Waddington as Earl of Nottingham. The show was written and created for TV by Jonathan English and John Glenn.
Sean Bean first made a name for himself by playing Boromir in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies, and he later featured in another epic, Troy, as Odysseus. Matt Damon will take over the role of Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s 2026 epic. Bean then exploded in popularity thanks to his role as Ned Stark in the first season of Game of Thrones, and he recently featured alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in his return to acting in Anemone.
