As one of the modern era's most influential and popular shonen action anime, Jujutsu Kaisen has garnered an impressive following after two seasons so far. But even with its positive reception outside of Japan, its true, most uninhibited form was something fans have craved for years on streaming. Now, Jujutsu Kaisen has switched its broadcast footage with the home release.
According to the official Jujutsu Kaisen X account and website, the anime will be viewable in its Blu-ray and DVD release format, meaning no ghosting or dimming effects dulling the spectacular visuals. As these are safety measures necessitated by past anime broadcast incidents, this change is a surprisingly big deal, especially as Jujutsu Kaisen can be experienced like never before.
Jujutsu Kaisen Released Its Unedited Anime on December 1
A Major Win for Fans Demanding the Unedited Version
While the Jujutsu Kaisen anime account clarifies it doesn't have specifics on hand for various streaming services or broadcast networks, the change has been issued effective Monday, December 1, 2025. This change has actually been demanded by fans for years at this point, even culminating in a Change.org petition to remove ghosting and dimming from Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
For those unaware, ghosting and dimming were implemented into Jujutsu Kaisen and any necessary anime as a safety measure to prevent triggering epileptic seizures. It was infamously made necessary by the broadcast incident of Pokemon's banned "Electric Soldier Porygon" episode, prompting Japanese networks to prevent triggers like strobe effects, and luminance brought down to artificial maximums.
Ghosting blended frames together to create a smooth, yet blurry effect, especially infamous in freeze-frame screencaps, while dimming was the named result of luminance-reduction, darkening the screen.
But for those unaffected by such concerns, what was left was the safe-for-TV version unless you buy the home release of Jujutsu Kaisen. Ghosting blended frames together to create a smooth, yet blurry effect, especially infamous in freeze-frame screencaps, while dimming was the named result of luminance-reduction, darkening the screen.
It's a surprising win for Jujutsu Kaisen fans, and the anime's official account is fully aware of the timing, with it commemorating the upcoming release of season 3. For streaming services, this is a major victory, as it makes Jujutsu Kaisen just as visually rewarding as it is to buy the home release, with far less steep of a price.
Fans Will Notice an Immediate Difference
Battles Will Be Intensely Satisfying
Jujutsu Kaisen's Yuji has a scar on his face and looks scared.
In the replies to the Jujutsu Kaisen update, there was immediate satisfaction with the announcement. After all, this was a change demanded by fans for years, and it sets a precedent for similar future changes post-release. It removes Jujutsu Kaisen's most infamous inhibitors to an otherwise great anime, and is a unanimously-praised move.
Among the responses, there were particular fights highlighted by fans which will benefit from this update. This includes Sukuna vs. Mahoraga and Toji vs. Dagon, two noteworthy fights in season 2 which were watered down by the broadcast-safe release. But it also opens the door for more demand.
While Jujutsu Kaisen in its entirety up to and presumably including season 3 will now reflect this change, audiences now crave more similar updates. This includes requests for other MAPPA anime like Attack on Titan. While it's doubtful more targeted campaigns will result in revivals of perma-banned content like "Electric Soldier Porygon", Jujutsu Kaisen audiences scored a big win, regardless.
