Devin Williams is going from the Bronx to Queens this offseason, as the former New York Yankees closer has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal with the New York Mets.

He had an underwhelming season with the Yankees in 2025, blowing up multiple games and posting a 4.79 ERA in 67 appearances.
Previously, Williams came to New York in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Nestor Cortes, Caleb Durbin, and cash considerations in December 2024. He is a two-time All-Star, a former Rookie of the Year and two-time NL Reliever of the Year.
What went wrong during Devin Williams' stay in New York?
What was initially seen as a move that would bolster the Yankees' bullpen became an early disaster as Devin Williams couldn't grapple with new dynamics. In his first 10 games, Williams posted an ERA of 11.25. This was one of the worst 10-game starts ever by a Yankees reliever (minimum 8 IP). Only two others (Steve Howe and T.J. Beam) had worse starts in team history. His early blow-ups led to manager Aaron Boone removing him from the role of a closer.

With a change in scenario, Williams would like to put his Yankees chapter to bed and hope for a positive start with the Mets in 2026.
