The New York Mets and free agent reliever Devin Williams have agreed to terms on a 3 year deal, per multiple reports.

According to Jon Heyman, Williams gets a $6 million signing bonus paid out over the next three years, and $15 million per year for each of the three years of the deal, with $5 million per year deferred, with what appears to be 10 payments of $500,000 apiece payable in years 11 through 20 after the year in which the salary was earned for each of the three years of the deal.

Williams spent his entire career with the Milwaukee Brewers until he was traded to the New York Yankees prior to the 2025 season. Williams put up a 1.83 ERA in 241 career appearances for the Brewers, but had a 4.79 ERA in 67 appearances for the Yankees in 2025. Despite the ugly ERA, Williams had strong peripherals and a 3.09 xERA on the season.

There’s a bit of irony here, in that perhaps the most memorable moment of Williams’ career came in the decisive Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series in 2024 against the New York Mets. Williams came into the game in the top of the ninth with a 2-0 lead, needing three outs to send the Brewers to the NLDS. Unfortunately, Williams gave up a three run home run to Pete Alonso, and the Mets advanced, ultimately reaching the NLCS.
