By Andrew RavensShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberWWE has officially confirmed the main event for the first Monday Night Raw of 2026. During the December 1 episode of Raw, the company announced that World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk will defend his title against Bron Breakker on January 5, 2026. The match is scheduled to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, following a venue swap that moved the show from its originally scheduled location in Buffalo.
The championship match comes on the heels of the dramatic events at Survivor Series: WarGames, which took place on November 29 in San Diego. During the Men's WarGames match, Breakker secured the victory for his team—dubbed "The Vision," which also included Bronson Reed, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre, and Brock Lesnar—by pinning CM Punk.
The finish occurred after an unnamed masked individual interfered, delivering a superkick and a stomp to Punk, allowing Breakker to hit his signature spear for the win.

On the December 1 broadcast, commentator Joe Tessitore informed the audience that Punk was not medically cleared to compete that night due to the attack he suffered at the conclusion of WarGames. Despite the champion's absence from the ring, the title match was booked as a direct result of Breakker's pinfall victory over the champion in the cage structure.
...Punk, who is currently in his second reign as World Heavyweight Champion, won the vacant title by defeating Jey Uso at Saturday Night's Main Event on November 1. Breakker has been rapidly ascending the card, with Punk himself previously praising the young star's potential.
"He believes that Breakker is one of the most promising young performers in WWE," a report regarding Punk's comments on the Mostly Sports podcast stated.
This announcement sets the stage for a high-stakes start to the new year as WWE builds toward the Royal Rumble. Before that, however, the company will present Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York, which will feature John Cena's final match.
