New Virginia Tech head coach James Franklin remains red hot on the recruiting trail. After a busy week last week, Franklin and the Hokies landed offensive lineman Maddox Cochrane on Sunday and followed that up with 4-star quarterback Troy Huhn on Monday afternoon .

Franklin is far from done. Shortly after the news of Huhn’s commitment, 3-star linebacker Mathieu Lamah flipped his commitment from Penn State to Virginia Tech.

Lamah is the latest former Penn State recruit to flip his commitment to the good guys. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound linebacker plays high school football at Patriot High School in Nokesville, Virginia. Lamah first committed to the Nittany Lions on May 5 and boasts an impressive offer list, which includes Big Ten, ACC, SEC and Big 12 teams.

Once Penn State fired Franklin in October, it was clear that Lamah was not long for State College. Franklin quickly set up an official visit for Lamah in Blacksburg and the rest was history. Before initially committing to the Nittany Lions, the Hokies weren’t considered a threat to sign him, although he did visit the Hokies officially in June.

What stands out most about Lamah is size, length and athleticism. While he projects to play linebacker at the next level, he could be an off-ball linebacker, play the MIKE, or be used as a standup edge rusher. Lamah is an exciting prospect to watch because there are so many possibilities with where you could play him. He already had terrific size and could easily add 25-30 pounds of muscle.

Another excellent addition for the Hokies’ fast-rising 2026 recruiting class.
