Derek Dooley, the former college and NFL coach running for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, holds net assets of between $3.2 million and $8.37 million, according to a financial disclosure filing with the U.S. Senate on Monday. That sum does not include Dooley’s NFL pension, which he put at between $500,001 and $1 million.
In addition, Dooley continues to participate in employee benefit plans through the University of Tennessee, where he served as head football coach from 2010 to 2012; the Teachers’ Retirement System of Alabama, which he joined while serving as senior offensive analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2022 to 2023; and a 401(k) plan from the New York Giants, where he was an assistant coach from 2020 to 2021.

Earlier in his career, Dooley served as both head football coach and athletic director at Louisiana Tech. Dooley’s father, Vince Dooley, was a longtime head coach at Georgia and won the 1980 national championship.
In addition to investment income, Derek Dooley reported earning $125,484 in compensation through Montlac Advisors, a Georgia consulting firm he founded in February 2024.
Dooley is in a crowded Republican primary field seeking to challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff in 2026. If elected, Dooley would be the second former SEC football coach to claim a Senate seat in recent years, following former Auburn coach and current Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, who is vacating his seat to run for governor.

Among his publicly traded holdings, Dooley’s largest investment is between $250,001 and $500,000 of stock in Graham Holdings, the media and education company that once owned The Washington Post.
Dooley launched his candidacy in August through a video shot on a football field and featuring a clip of his father celebrating his college football title. The Dooley family has close ties to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who has already endorsed Derek Dooley for Senate.
Herschel Walker, a former star player under Vince Dooley, lost the 2022 race for Georgia’s other Senate seat to Democrat Raphael Warnock. Walker is now the U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas, after being confirmed by the Senate last month.
