Cooke, 30, was at the center of several scuffles during the Jaguars’ 25-3 win over the Titans on Sunday, being knocked over twice by late hits after punting the ball and then later being blocked hard by Chestnut, 25, on a 47-yard punt return by Chimere Dike in the fourth quarter.

After Dike’s 47-yard return, the Jaguars punter received an unnecessary roughness penalty following a scuffle involving several other players.

Chestnut told reporters after the game that at some point during Sunday’s contest, Cooke got in his face and “said he was going to kill” him.

“I was just trying to play hard, and he came up to me and said he was going to kill me,” Chestnut said, slightly smiling as he retold the story about the punter’s aggressive message to him. “So I don’t know what made him do that.”

Chestnut reporters he never got an explanation for what exactly irked Cooke enough to make the alleged threat, according to the Associated Press. PEOPLE has contacted the Jaguars for comment.

"That was surprising to me,” Chestnut added. “I ain't never seen nothing like that before.”

After the game, Cooke spoke with reporters but wasn’t specifically asked about the incident. He was, however, asked about his scuffles with Titans players and an elongated conversation he had with a referee following one of those incidents.

"I might have said some things that sounded rude, so I wanted to go clear the air," Cooke told reporters about the conversation with the referee after halftime, according to video shared online by local CBS 47. "I don't like people having grudges against me, so [I was] kind of telling him the situation and also [wanted to] find out his take on what happened on that play in the end zone."

Cooke said Sunday’s win over the Titans was an “eventful” game and admitted that “in the moment” he can “get very upset about certain calls.

“But it is what it is,” Cooke said. “You can’t hold that against them.”

Jaguars coach Liam Coen said at his postgame press conference that he’d like to see Cooke play “smarter” going forward.

“There were some frustrations being built up with them rushing us the way they were,” Coen said. “I’m proud of those guys for competing, but we’ve got to continue to be smarter.”
