Millie Bobby Brown has doubled down on her recent comments about her Stranger Things co-star David Harbour, insisting that the pair have a “great relationship”.

Early last month, it was reported that Brown had filed a claim against her on-screen adopted father before the fifth and final season of the hit Netflix sci-fi series had been filmed.

It was said that Brown had accused her co-star of “harassment and bullying” on set. According to reports, Harbour faced an internal inquiry following the complaints, though there were no claims of sexual impropriety.

Brown recently said it had been “so nice” and “really exciting” being able to “come back together” with the actor. The pair also appeared together on the red carpet at the premiere of Stranger Things 5, presenting a united front.

Now, speaking to Deadline, the Eleven actor has reiterated that she and Harbour remain on good terms. She also reflected on her experience on set with the star (who plays Jim Hopper) over the show’s five seasons – the first of which was released in 2016.

“Of course I felt safe [with Harbour],” Brown said. “We’ve worked together for 10 years. I feel safe with everyone on that set. You naturally just… you’ve been doing it for so long.”

She continued: “We also play father and daughter, so naturally you have a closer bond than [with] the rest. Because we have had some really intense scenes together, especially in season two.”

“But David and I have a great relationship. We work really closely together in the scenes and in preparing for the scenes. I really am excited for everyone to see the labour of love and hard work we’ve put into the closure of our relationship, and what that looks like,” she added. “And to give some of the fans – especially the Hopper and Eleven fans – that kind of… those scenes that I feel are gonna be quite impactful. But I love it.”

She added: “It makes me want to bring my A game every single time I see I’m on the call sheet working with [Harbour], because I know he’s bringing it right back.”

Brown previously explained: “I think some of people’s favourite scenes of Eleven are El and [Hopper], so I’m really excited to have that come to screen once again.”

At the time, she said the two characters in season five “reminded me so much of season two and three, where we’re both kind of butting heads, and she’s growing up, she’s trying to find her own voice, and he’s trying to parent”.

“That dynamic definitely comes back into play once again, and I’m really excited for people to see that,” she said.

Following the reports of Harbour’s alleged bullying and harassment, Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer commented (via The Hollywood Reporter): “Obviously, you understand I can’t get into personal on-set matters, but I will say we’ve been doing this for 10 years with this cast, and at this point they’re family and we deeply care about them.

“So, you know, nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone feels safe and happy.”

Series director and executive producer Shawn Levy also said the reports “range from wildly inaccurate to … there’s so much noise around it”, adding: “But the truth is that we view this crew and this cast as family, and so we treat each other with respect, and that’s always been bedrock.”

Around the time the report was published, Esquire Spain published an interview with Harbour. Here, the actor was asked whether there was anything he would change about his life, now that he is 50 years old.

In response, Harbour said he “would change either everything or nothing” and reflected on the “question of regret”.

The conversation also followed the release of Lily Allen’s “vulnerable” new album, ‘West End Girl’. The project was written and recorded in the wake of the breakdown of her marriage to Harbour, who allegedly cheated on her. However, since releasing the LP, the singer has insisted it is “not a cruel album” and said she wasn’t seeking “revenge”. She later explained that making the record had been “an act of desperation”.

In a four-star review of Stranger Things season five, volume one, NME wrote: “Perhaps inevitably, volume one feels a lot like an appetiser for the rest of the season. But even in piecemeal form, Stranger Things has a flair for epic and emotionally resonant storytelling. After all those years, this smart, big-hearted sci-fi show still has the power to turn your head upside down.”
