What we learned from the New York Jets' win over the Atlanta Falcons

The New York Jets defeated the Atlanta Falcons 27-24 in Week 13, improving their record to 3-9.

The Jets and Falcons were tied 7-7 at halftime. The Falcons outscored the Jets 10-7 during the third quarter to enter the fourth with a slight advantage. A 13-point four-quarter performance by Aaron Glenn's competitive squad completed the comeback.

Aaron Glenn's squad keeps fighting

The narrative following the Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams trades was that the Jets were fully embracing a tank job. The Jets are actually 2-2 since trading Gardner and Williams, significantly better than the 1-7 record they compiled pre NFL trade deadline. Coach Glenn's team keeps playing hard despite national narratives.

Elite special teams play

The Jets defense has struggled to create turnovers this season, but the special teams unit picked up the slack. Gunner Qwan'tez Stiggers recorded a muffed Jamal Agnew punt that led to a Jets touchdown. Elsewhere, kicker Nick Folk was 3-for-3 on extra points and 2-for-2 on field goals, including a game-winner from 56 yards.

Jets take advantage of Falcons injuries

The Falcons were without several key starters on offense, including quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and wide receiver Drake London. Cousins performed admirably, completing 21-of-34 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown, but the Falcons' leading wide receiver Darnell Mooney had two catches for 25 yards, proving London was missed. The Jets took advantage of those absences to win the game.
