The rumblings out of Pittsburgh suggest the Pirates are prepared to spend money this offseason.

There are certainly plenty of free agent options to choose from, if the Pirates do decide to throw their hats into the ring.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand took a shot at figuring out who the Pirates might go after in his latest article, in which he linked one free agent with each of the 30 MLB teams.
For Pittsburgh, he chose Eugenio Suarez, the slugging third baseman who began 2025 with the Arizona Diamondbacks before moving to the Seattle Mariners at the trade deadline.

"Suárez’s defense at third base is below average, but Pittsburgh could give him some at-bats at DH, as well."

The key concern with Suarez is that he was red hot to start 2025 with the Diamondbacks (36 of his home runs) before cooling down with the Mariners (13 home runs and much worse metrics across the board).
He's always been a bit of a streaky slugger, so that likely just comes with the territory. But with Suarez getting up there in years, he may actually start to decline at some point.
