A win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day and losses by the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams to finish up Week 13 have the Green Bay Packers back in the running for No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

According to the New York Times NFL Playoff Simulator, the Packers have a 65 percent chance of winning the NFC North, which would guarantee a home playoff game. But the real prize for the best teams in each conference is the No. 1 seed, which provides the coveted bye in the wild card round and a home playoff game in the divisional round. The Packers are in no way the favorite to be the No. 1 seed, but they are certainly back in the mix -- the simulator gives Matt LaFleur's team a 13 percent chance.

Falling to 5-3-1 after back-to-back home losses to the Panthers and Eagles looked like a dagger to Green Bay's chances at the No. 1 seed, but three straight wins combined with the Eagles' back-to-back losses and the Rams' upset loss to the Panthers on Sunday have revived the Packers in the NFC race.

The Packers are not only 3-0 in the division, but also 6-2-1 against the NFC, and they are the only team in the conference who is unbeaten against the division and have only two losses against the conference. But a tough final stretch will stress the Packers' ability to secure the No. 1 seed.

Current NFC playoff standings

  1. Chicago Bears (9-3)

  2. Los Angeles Rams (9-3)

  3. Philadelphia Eagles (8-4)

  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-5)

  5. Seattle Seahawks (9-3)

  6. Green Bay Packers (9-3-1)

  7. San Francisco 49ers (9-4)

The Packers host the Bears, who are the No. 1 seed via tiebreaker, at Lambeau Field in Week 14.
