Auburn head coach Alex Golesh is quickly rounding out his coaching staff, which is expected to include a former Auburn playmaker.

According to John Brice of FootballScoop.com, Golesh is set to bring Kodi Burns with him from his USF staff to the Plains. The former Auburn quarterback-turned-wide receiver served as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach under Golesh for the 2025 season after spending the previous three seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

This will be Burns' third stint as an assistant coach for Auburn. In 2013, he served as a graduate assistant, then returned as wide receiver coach for Gus Malzahn in 2016, a spot he held for four seasons. This followed his college career at Auburn, which started with Burns playing quarterback but later converted to wide receiver. Burns scored a touchdown in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game that Auburn won 22-19 over Oregon.

Burns played quarterback in his first two seasons at Auburn in 2007 and 2008 before switching to wide receiver before the 2009 season. As a quarterback, he threw for 1,312 yards and seven touchdowns. As a receiver, he caught 16 passes, 223 yards, and two touchdowns.

After his playing career was over, he served as a graduate assistant at Arkansas State (2012) and Auburn (2013). He then coached wide receivers at Samford in 2014 and Middle Tennessee in 2015 before returning to Auburn in 2016. When Bryan Harsin was hired after the 2020 season, Burns was not retained. He was then the wide receivers coach at Tennessee when Golesh was the offensive coordinator in 2021. He was then an assistant for the New Orleans Saints before returning to college football with South Florida.

Burns is one of six hires Golesh made Sunday. According to Pete Nakos of On3, Golesh is bringing offensive coordinator Joel Gordon, offensive line coach Tyler Hudanick, cornerbacks coach Demarcus Van Dyke, strength coach George Courides, and director of scouting Alex Fagan with him from USF. Their roles within the staff will be determined at a later date.
