Blue Jays Eyed 3 Relievers, Including Ryan Helsley: Report

The Toronto Blue Jays clearly haven't taken their foot off the gas since losing the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Toronto seemingly is aggressive each offseason. The Blue Jays were involved in the Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto, and Rōki Sasaki markets over the last two offseasons, to name a few. Toronto already has had success this offseason by reportedly agreeing to sign Dylan Cease to a long-term deal.

There have been misses as well, though. For example, The Athletic's Mitch Bannon shared on X that the Blue Jays showed at least "preliminary interest" in Ryan Helsley, Raisel Iglesias, and Phil Maton in free agency.

"The Blue Jays showed at least preliminary interest in the 3 top (relief pitchers) to sign so far (Iglesias, Maton, and Helsley)," Bannon wrote on X. "They remain interested in adding a 7th to 9th inning arm."

This report surfaced after Helsley reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, per ESPN's Jeff Passan.

"Closer Ryan Helsley and the Baltimore Orioles are in agreement on a two-year contract with an opt-out after the first season, pending physical, sources tell ESPN," Passan wrote on X. "Helsley, who fielded interest from teams to convert to a starter, will be the ninth-inning option for Baltimore."

The Blue Jays could use a high-leverage reliever. Helsley, Iglesias, and Maton all would've been good options. Fortunately, there are others still available.
