The Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4) will return home after a triumphant road victory to host the Indianapolis Colts (8-4) at 1:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, Dec. 7, at EverBank Stadium.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars are 1.5-point underdogs and the total is set at 47.5 points.

Jacksonville has all the momentum after winning its third game in a row. Multiple Titans players looked shellshocked in postgame interviews, and Liam Coen is now the fastest coach in franchise history to reach eight wins. Brenton Strange, Brian Thomas Jr., and Jourdan Lewis all played on Sunday, and Travon Walker and Arik Armstead could come back this week. The Jaguars are trending up.

“We’re giving ourselves an opportunity to play meaningful games in November and December, and ultimately that’s all you can ask for in this league,” said Coen.

Meanwhile, after entering its bye week with an 8-2 record, Indianapolis has dropped two in a row. Early-season darling Daniel Jones fractured his fibula in the Week 12 loss to Kansas City, and newly acquired star Sauce Gardner strained his calf in Sunday’s loss to Houston.

The Texans and the Chiefs are tough opponents (especially compared to the Jaguars’ recent matchups). Putting aside our proximity and recency biases, the Colts are probably the better team. Most team efficiency metrics, from point differential (PD) to DVOA, have them as the third-best in football behind only the Seahawks and the Rams.

But looking at their schedule, how impressed should we really be?

Shane Steichen’s squad lost to the Rams, Steelers, Chiefs, and Texans. They have marquee wins against the Chargers and the Broncos — though really, they didn’t win so much as Denver lost. Against these teams with a .500 record or better, the Colts have a 2-4 record and -6 PD.

In their remaining games against the Dolphins, Raiders, Cardinals, Falcons, and Titans (twice), they have a 7-0 record and a whopping +114 PD.

The Jaguars are 5-3 with a +17 PD against .500 or better teams, and 3-1 with a +22 PD otherwise.

May the best team win!

Whoever does will be in sole possession of first place in the AFC South with four games to go.
