Goldman Sachs has reportedly announced the expansion of its Birmingham office with the addition of 500 new roles over the coming years.
The US-based company opened its Birmingham office in 2021 with 30 employees, and now has about 500 in the UK’s second-largest city.
The move is expected to double the current headcount at the financial firm’s Midlands outpost in the UK, reported Bloomberg.
It is part of Goldman Sachs’ goal of increasing its activity in Britain, focusing on sectors such as digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence.
The announcement follows Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves’ recent budget, which did not raise taxes on UK lenders.
Several banks have responded with plans to increase their investment in the country.
Birmingham expansion is part of a broader strategy by Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon to reshape the company’s global operations, said the report.
The company has been growing its presence in strategic locations worldwide and aims to manage costs by placing thousands of jobs in lower-cost locations.
According to a BBC report, the office in London is the company’s largest in Europe and the Birmingham base specialises in technology and innovation.
In October 2025, Goldman Sachs announced an expansion in the Middle East, with the launch of its onshore Private Wealth Management services in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The launch was aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the company’s Riyadh office, which has been operational since 2008.
Goldman Sachs said that private wealth management was part of its strategic focus and planned to scale its services for clients both in the Middle East and worldwide.
"Goldman Sachs to expand Birmingham office with 500 new roles " was originally created and published by Private Banker International, a GlobalData owned brand.
