Former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchison says Manchester United are under-performing this season given their lack of European football and argues their win over Crystal Palace on Sunday needs to be a "springboard".

Despite being dominated in the first half at Selhurst Park, United rallied after the break with goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount turning the match on its head.

It was a first win in four for Ruben Amorim's side, who are now seventh but just three points behind Chelsea in third.

"Because they've got no European football at all, this team should be doing a lot better," Hutchinson told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast. "They're not playing two or three games a week - they're getting five or six days rest at least between matches.

"They should be performing. They should be doing better. The first half was really poor again.

"But this was a start. It was good away win against one of the form sides in the Premier League at a very hard place to go.

"It's an intimidating atmosphere against a good team and it's a very good three points.

"The good news for United fans is that they've now got West Ham and Wolves, which should be two wins.

"There is a chance to build momentum and they have to take it now. No more excuses - this win has to be a springboard."
