The Sun Belt experienced its first head coach firing of 2025 on the Sunday after the regular season finale.

Coastal Carolina parted ways with Tim Beck after three seasons where he produced a 20-18 record. Beck attained bowl eligibility in all three years at the helm, faring 8-5 in 2023 (victory over San Jose State in Hawaii Bowl), 6-7 in 2024 (loss to UTSA in Myrtle Beach Bowl), and 6-6 in 2025 at the time of his firing. The 2023 Hawaii Bowl victory marked the second postseason win in Coastal Carolina history.

When Beck onboarded prior to the 2023 season fresh off an offensive coordinator tenure at NC State, he inherited the highest expectations in program history. His predecessor Jamey Chadwell went 11-1, 11-2, and 9-3 in his final three years at Coastal Carolina, appearing in the AP Poll at some point in each season and finishing at No. 14 during the COVID-adjusted 2020 season. The Chanticleers have only been an FBS program for nine years, and they’ve qualified for six-straight bowl games — keeping the streak alive throughout Beck’s tenure.

In 2025, Beck’s Chanticleers ranked 103rd in points per game and 128th in points allowed per game, with the offense and defense struggling in Saturday’s regular season finale, a 59-10 home thrashing to Sun Belt heavyweight James Madison. Coastal Carolina lost its final two games under Beck by 44+ points. It surrendered 45 points or greater in five games and scored single-digits in four games this year, taking its first-ever shutout as an FBS team to East Carolina in September. To attain bowl eligibility, Coastal Carolina did not defeat a team with a winning record, as 6-6 Georgia Southern served as its marquee victory.

“After a comprehensive review of our entire football program and its trajectory, I’ve determined a change is needed moving forward,” Coastal Carolina athletic director Chance Miller said in a statement. “We are grateful to Coach Beck for his efforts the past three seasons. We certainly wish Coach and his family well in their future endeavors. Our expectation for this football program is to win the Sun Belt conference championship and compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff, and that will guide us in our search for our next head coach.”

Defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson will serve as the interim for Coastal Carolina’s upcoming bowl game, which will likely be announced Sunday, Dec. 7.
