Crystal Palace suffered a 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Selhurst Park that saw the Eagles drop to ninth place on the Premier League table.

A lethargic Palace side still managed to deliver a respectable performance but didn’t take their chances, allowing the Red Devils to pounce.

Palace also took another significant blow with attacker Ismaila Sarr picking up an injury that will likely keep him out for weeks.

The Eagles do not have any player who can adeptly deputise for Sarr, and even when he does bounce back, he’ll be off to the African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

A clearly incensed Oliver Glasner blasted Palace’s underwhelming summer transfer window, which leaves the club short of quality for this crucial stretch of the season.

Glasner said (via the BBC), “We missed a couple of chances in July and August, in the transfer window, to make it easier for us, but again we will stick together and make it better.”

“If you play European football for the first time in your history, you should invest and not save,” Glasner added.

“I think January is too late (to add). We will have played more than 50% of our games.

“Everything was pretty clear, and I didn’t say anything, but today I think it is also time to speak about it, that we missed the chance to play an even better season in the summer.”

He later added, “We are still in very good positions, but the chance to play an even better season we threw away in the summer.”

Glasner left Palace with a warning shot regarding his future.

He said, “Patience is not something for me. We want to succeed, and we want to win games in every competition. The club has to get the resources to get this done.”

Palace penny-pinched when ambition was required.

After delivering historic European football, the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and injecting belief into Selhurst Park, Glasner has every right to feel let down.

The summer window was diabolical. Now the consequences are unfolding on the pitch. They are short of depth, short of quality, and short of answers.

Glasner has proven his worth through results, but no manager can sustain progress without genuine backing. His frustration isn’t petulance, it’s a warning.

If the hierarchy does not match his ambition, they risk undoing everything he has built and potentially losing the man who made Palace dream bigger in the first place.
