VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — No. 11 seed USD took down the Drake Bulldogs, 38-17. Larenzo Fenner was the star of the show on Saturday, recording 115 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Aiden Bouman threw for 261 yards and four touchdowns in the Coyotes win. It was the USD defense that sealed the deal, setting a new FCS playoff program record by holding the Bulldogs to just 17 points.

“We got a poised football team,” head coach Travis Johansen said. “So when things were a little nip and tuck there in the second quarter, they stayed really consistent emotionally and led to better execution as the game went along.”

The Coyotes advance to the second round of the FCS playoffs where they will face the No. 6-seed Mercer Bears. The Bears finished with a 9-2 record behind head coach Mike Jacobs in his first year as Mercer’s head coach.

USD will travel to Macon, Georgia to face the Bears on Saturday, Dec. 6.
