Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz continued to climb the record books on Sunday night. Ertz entered the game just two receptions (814) shy of passing Shannon Sharpe (815) for the 5th most receptions by a tight end in NFL history. He made quick work of passing Sharpe, and tallied not just two, but three receptions in the first quarter alone, and now has 818 career receptions at the end of the first quarter of Washington's Sunday night contest with the Denver Broncos.
Ertz reached the 800 career receptions club against the Kansas City Chiefs at the end of October this season. Now, Tony Gonzalez (1,325), Jason Witten (1,228), Travis Kelce (1,063), and Antonio Gates (995) are the only tight ends with more receptions than Ertz in the history of the NFL. At the end of the first quarter of the Commanders' Week 13 Sunday night contest, Ertz has now tallied 43 receptions for 411 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season with Washington.
