The X-Men are returning to their roots with the wildest mutant school in the franchise's long history. It's been years since the X-Men had a school dedicated to teaching the next generation of mutants. Now, with Marvel kicking off a new era of X-Men storytelling, it is the perfect time to take the concept to new heights.
Marvel officially announced X-Men United, a new series launching in March 2026 from writer Eve L. Ewing and artist Tiago Palma.

X-Men United promises to bring together every generation of the X-Men, following in the footsteps of previous X-Men academies like the Charles Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, and the Massachusetts Academy.

X-Men United features the X-Men putting aside their differences and finally becoming a unified front. Hence, the name X-Men United. Ever since the Fall of Krakoa, the X-Men have been splintered and fighting amongst themselves. Those dark days appear to be in the past, and X-Men United is the first step in moving forward into a positive future for mutantkind.
The description of X-Men United #1 helps to set the stage for what's to come:
“Build a school,” Charles Xavier told them, and the X-Men have done so—but in a manner nobody saw coming! Welcome to Graymatter Lane, a place where mutants anywhere in the world can come together in unity to teach one another the skills needed for their survival! With the greatest of the X-Men as teachers and a campus unlike any before seen, it’s the crossroads of the X-Universe as a student body from across the globe works to take mutantkind to the next step in their evolution—and to cope with a brewing threat to all of their number!
However, not every X-Man is on board with X-Men United. Cyclops, the X-Men's de facto leader, is possibly opposed to the idea of Graymatter Lane. This could put him in an unexpectedly adversarial role as the series begins.
"X-Men United forms the center point of the mutant world," X-Men group editor Tom Brevoort said. "Steeped in the tradition of series like Astonishing X-Men and Wolverine & The X-Men, Graymatter Lane is a place where all of the major players in the X world will come together to fight, hook up and hash out their differences."

It's about time that the X-Men got back to the business of running a school for mutants. A generation of X-Men fans grew up with the iconic X-Men: The Animated Series, and want to enjoy stories that feature that same type of backdrop. The last time an X-Men comic featured a school setting was Wolverine and the X-Men.
It has been 10 long years without a school or academy for the X-Men to call home. Readers are eager to see what it's like for the X-Men to teach again. It will also be exciting to see what exactly Graymatter Lane is. For now, readers know that Graymatter Lane is described as the central hub for the X-Men.
Eve L. Ewing expressed excitement over X-Men United, stating:
"Working on the X-team for the past couple of years has been some of the most fun I've had writing comics ever.The idea for Graymatter Lane was a collective one, from lots of writers in a room brainstorming, and it's so cool because the psychic space allows for things to be weirder and more surreal, while still building on the classic Xavier's School energy we've all loved for decades..
Meanwhile, artist Tiego Palma noted:
Unreal! That’s how I would sum up the feeling of working on this new chapter of X-Men. And what an honor to get the chance to design the new Graymatter Lane campus. Loved the freedom to really play around with different shapes and super trippy ideas for such an iconic space for the group.
In other words, it is the beginning of a bright, audacious new era for Marvel's X-Men, as 2026 promises an exciting future that honors the roots of the classic franchise by making it a school book once more.
