Sixers' VJ Edgecombe to return to starting lineup on Sunday vs. Hawks

After missing the last three games with a calf injury, rookie VJ Edgecombe will return to the starting lineup on Sunday as the Philadelphia 76ers host the Atlanta Hawks.

Edgecombe began experiencing some tightness in his left calf late during their overtime victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 20. Nurse said earlier this week that the injury isn't considered serious after imaging tests came back clean.

The third pick practiced with the team on Wednesday and went through a workout on Friday in Brooklyn. Sixers coach Nick Nurse said pregame on Sunday that if Edgecombe returned, he would be on a minutes restriction against the Hawks.

Edgecombe is averaging 15.6 points, six rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 steals on 36.6% shooting from 3-point range in 15 appearances. He ranks third in rookie scoring and is one of five first-year players to score at least 30 points in a game this season.

The 20-year-old has fit in nicely with the Sixers, forming a lethal scoring duo with Tyrese Maxey. In fact, in their season debut on Oct. 22, they became the first backcourt pairing in franchise history to both score at least 34 points in the same game.

In addition to Edgecombe returning, the Sixers will also have Joel Embiid back in the lineup after missing the past nine games. It will mark the 19th time that the team has had Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey available to play in the same game.
