While survival rules in a zombie-infested world are always clear to the audience, be it Walking Dead or The Last of Us, none lay it down as simply as Zombieland. From doing cardio to double-checking if a zombie is dead, the Ruben Fleischer-directed films made survival fun and chaotic in a good way. There are two movies in the franchise with persistent hopes for a third one among its fandom. So, while we wait for the announcement of the third movie, the first movie just got more accessible.

Zombieland will debut on Prime Video this December. Led by Jesse Eisenberg, the movie follows four survivors of a zombie apocalypse, Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin), who try to make their way on an extended cross-country road trip to find a sanctuary free from zombies. With a straightforward premise, the movie finds its best moments in action sequences, dark humor, and the group's ability to keep each other safe. For some, the movie was further elevated with Bill Murray’s cameo as a fictionalized version of himself.

With its quirky dialogue, visual appeal, and hilarious performances, Zombieland became a box office hit, grossing $102 million worldwide. The blend of a road trip with buddy comedy tropes made it a critical and commercial hit, garnering an 89% Rotten Tomatoes rating. A decade later, the movie’s success was followed up with Zombieland: Double Tap, which was equally funny and exhilarating.

Will There Be a ‘Zombieland 3’?

A third movie in the franchise is obviously expected by fans. There are many reasons why it could be taking so long to make, but getting Fleischer, Eisenberg, and Harrelson together isn’t one of them. The trio recently collaborated on Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. At the time, Eisenberg affirmed, “Yes, I would like to [make Zombieland 3].” He specifically mentioned the time gap between the two movies compared to the Now You See Me franchise, explaining, “Zombieland was, I think a 10-year break in between. This movie, we did one, and then like three years later, and then 10 years later. So, Now You See Me is probably more likely to have more movies than Zombieland.”

Zombieland begins its survival journey on Prime Video starting December 1. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on Zombieland 3.
