By Michael GallagherShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberIt’s safe to say the Colorado Buffaloes’ 3-9 finish, which included a five-game losing streak to close out the season, left a sour taste in the mouth of head coach Deion Sanders.
Just one year removed from a 9-4 run and appearance in the Alamo Bowl, Colorado had a major regression after losing star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter to the NFL.
Colorado got erratic QB play this year from Kaidon Salter, Ryan Staub, and five-star freshman Julian Lewis, the team had virtually no run game (no player had more than 384 yards or five touchdowns), and the defense ranked 125th in the country in total defense (425.7 yards allowed per game).

So when Sanders is looking ahead to 2026 and what he wants to see done differently, he gave a pretty candid answer: “I see everything being different, even me.”
Sanders’ cryptic comments hint that a shake-up could be coming for the Buffaloes program, which Sanders confirmed when asked by reporters what to expect during the offseason.

“Changes,” Sanders told reporters, via On3. “Already evaluating the program. Changes (are coming).
“… Mentality, personnel, coaching, everything — that’s what that looks like. This mentality, a certain mentality you got to have when that game is right there, and you could take it either way. When you take it this way all the time, that’s a problem on both sides. It’s not just a personal problem. There’s a personnel problem.”
Sanders stripped offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur of play-calling duties during the season, and it’s possible Shurmur could be looking for a new job next season. The same could be said for defensive coordinator Robert Livingston.
Colorado already lost running backs coach Marshall Faulk, who accepted the head-coaching position at Southern University, so it’s not unfounded to think most of Sanders’ assistant coaching staff could look much different next season.
