Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) is less than two days removed from Friday's road loss to rival Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC), falling 27-17 after leading 10-3 at halftime, squandering away an opportunity to defeat the Longhorns for the first time in 15 seasons, and earn a spot in the SEC Championship Game for the first time in program history.
Still, head coach Mike Elko has made significant progress in his second season, guaranteed to earn the program's first bid to the College Football Playoff, but will likely drop several spots after staying at No. 3 in the CFP rankings throughout November.

Still, most of A&M's wins in conference play are against the bottom half of the standings, including several teams that finished below .500. However, road wins against Notre Dame, LSU, and Missouri remain highly impressive and should solidify the Aggies as a top 6 seed before the playoffs begin.
After losing to Texas, Mike Elko, starting quarterback Marcel Reed, and junior linebacker Taurean York all conveyed a similar message after the loss, knowing that the disappointment they all feel needs to be put aside with a likely first-round home playoff game just three weeks away.
On Sunday, the Aggies dropped to No. 7 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, while also moving down three spots in the AP Top 25 Poll to No. 7. These rankings may or may not reflect Tuesday's updated College Football Rankings reveal, but it is noteworthy.
