In 2011, HBO kicked off a new era of fantasy television with its mega-hit series, Game of Thrones, introducing the kingdom of Westeros and the many power players maneuvering within it. Among the most beloved from the get-go, however, were the head of House Stark, Eddard "Ned" Stark (Sean Bean), and his illegitimate son, Jon Snow (Kit Harington). While Snow would go on to become one of the show's most pivotal characters throughout the remaining seven seasons, Ned's journey was cut tragically short after being executed on the orders of the detestable Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson). It wouldn't take long for the on-screen father and son to reunite, though. Just over one year later, the pair would star in the horror video game adaptation Silent Hill: Revelation, and now, it's about to stream for free on Tubi starting in December.

Silent Hill: Revelation is the sequel to 2006's Silent Hill, which also starred Bean opposite Radha Mitchell. Despite the solid $100.6 million haul earned by that film, it would take a while for the follow-up to get underway after losing both director Christophe Gans and writer Roger Avary. The reins were eventually passed to M.J. Bassett, who would go on to helm this year's Matilda Lutz-led Red Sonja reboot and a few episodes from the recent NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Her take on the Konami psychological horror franchise is primarily based on Silent Hill 3 and follows Sharon Da Silva (Adelaide Clemens), the adoptive daughter of Bean's Christopher Da Silva, who has spent years on the run with her father, swapping identities for reasons she doesn't fully understand. When Christopher disappears, she learns that he was actually protecting her from a mysterious cult known as the Order and is drawn into the foggy, demonic world of Silent Hill that holds the answers to the horrific visions she's suffered from since she was a child.

Opposite Clemens, Harington plays Vincent, a fellow student whom she soon learns is the less fanatical son of the Order's leader, Claudia Wolf, embodied by The Matrix icon Carrie-Anne Moss. Rounding out the starry cast are Martin Donovan, Malcolm McDowell, and Deborah Kara Unger. Despite all the firepower, Revelation was widely panned by critics at the time and, unlike its now-beloved predecessor, hasn't been reappraised as a misunderstood video game adaptation classic. It holds a dreadful 8% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a better, but still lowly 35% with audiences.

'Silent Hill' Is Close to Returning to the Big Screen

Recently, the Silent Hill franchise has been enjoying a bit of a renaissance. After years of games that failed to reach the heights of the first three titles, 2025 saw the release of Silent Hill f to widespread acclaim, taking the franchise and its nightmarish monsters from their usual foggy namesake locale to rural Japan in the 1960s. The new release continued the momentum started by Bloober Team's much-lauded 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2, which gave what is widely considered the greatest psychological horror game of all time a fresh coat of paint, along with changes to the gameplay for the modern day. Next year will look to continue the series' hot streak with Return to Silent Hill; Gans' return to the franchise looks to "faithfully" adapt Silent Hill 2 for the big screen. Starring Jeremy Irvine as its troubled protagonist James Sunderland, the film is set to premiere in theaters on January 23, 2026.

Silent Hill: Revelation joins Tubi's catalog on December 1. Stay tuned here at Collider for more on the biggest titles coming to and leaving streaming throughout the year.
