The saga appears to finally be over. The LSU Tigers are set to hire current Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin to be the 33rd head football coach in Baton Rouge, per ESPN's Pete Thamel and Mark Schlabach.

After weeks of discourse and fighting between the Tigers, Rebels, and Florida Gators fan bases, it appears LSU gets its guy. Thamel and Schlabach are reporting that he will receive a deal worth around $12 million per year over seven seasons.

This has been the Tigers' expectation for about a week. After a day of weighing options on Saturday, the hire should now come on Sunday morning.

The big hold up was that Kiffin wanted to continue to coach Ole Miss through the College Football Playoff. Thamel and Schlabach have reported that he will apparently not get his wish and he will not coach another game at the school.

Kiffin had been the Rebels' head coach since 2020. He had a 55-19 record there. This was by far his best campaign while there and actually the best in school history.

The 50-year-old has a 117-53 overall record in college, spanning stops with the Rebels, Tennessee Volunteers, USC Trojans, and Florida Atlantic Owls. He's worked as an assistant under legendary coaches Nick Saban and Pete Carroll.

With Kiffin, the Tigers can expect to bring their offense back to a level that they had begun to get used to in years like 2019 and 2023. His schools have not finished with an offense below No. 30 in the country since 2020.

Now, the question becomes what his staff will look like in Baton Rouge.
