Jonathan Smith comments on conversations with J Batt, job security

There are no secrets surrounding Michigan State football and the job security question surrounding Jonathan Smith. Following Saturday, the Spartans finished the 2025 season 4-8 (1-8 B1G), and whether Smith will be back next year or not is still unknown.

This is a question that surrounded Smith to end the season, and even following a win to end the season, that question looms large.

As it was mentioned before, there is no secret surrounding this question, even to Smith. Following the win, Smith was blatantly asked about this situation.

In the question, Smith was directly asked whether or not J Batt has made his job security known, and more directly, if he knows if he will be back next year or not. Smith answered the question directly.

"We have continued to conversate through the week, I am sure we will begin talking again in the coming days," Smith said."

Following this question, the direct, "will you be back next year" question followed, he responded, "Don't have that."

Take it for what it is worth, but one thing feels certain, it does not seem like he has been made aware that he ill be back next year.

He still may be back, but it is implied that questions will be getting their answers in the coming days.
