The Kentucky/Louisville rivalry is like no other. Children are raised to hate red or blue, while friendships are formed and lost based on a person’s allegiance to the Cats or Cards.

You’d think that with an early kickoff featuring frigid temps in front of a light crowd that there wouldn’t be much of a risk for any pregame shenanigans.

Think again.

In true UK/UL fashion the players found a way to get fired well before kick off. In fact, there were multiple near incidents that occurred just minutes apart.

Nick Lazaroff from BBN Toinight was on-site at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium and captured some video of not one, but two different minor scuffles approximately 90-minutes before the contest started.

The Big Blue Nation has seen all kinds of crazy altercations before, during, and after the Governor’s Cup matchup. In one instance, trash cans were even introduced into the madness.

There’s no denying that players circle this game on their calendar and do whatever they can possibly do to bring extra juice.

Walking into the stadium this morning, the reduced number of tailgates reflected the mediocre teams that were on the slate. However, the brave souls enduring the cold, both blue and red, were loud and proud, ready to cheer on their squad with some vigor.

Sadly, Louisville won 41-0 in a game that looked more like the Cardinals were taking on an FCS team. In fact, Kentucky has now been outscored 82-17.

It’s a real shame that there wasn’t more hype and excitement surrounding what should be one of the best days of the entire sports year. Despite the average fan not chomping at the bit to watch this football game, there will always be an added layer of intrigue and angst when it comes to the Governor’s Cup or any competition between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.

We saw that again this morning during the pregame scuffle, but unfortunately, that was the only fight Kentucky showed on this day.
