Newcastle United's first away win of the Premier League season was led by unlikely brace scorer Malick Thiaw as the Magpies blasted Everton 4-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.
Thiaw scored in the first minute and again to run the Magpies' lead to four in snapping a nine-game winless away run in Premier League play that stretched back to April and was their longest run with a league win since 2017.

Lewis Miley had a goal and an assist while Nick Woltemade scored a classy goal off an Anthony Elanga feed to help the Magpies make it back-to-back PL wins after toppling Manchester City last week at St. James' Park. Newcastle did blow a lead at midweek away to Marseille in the Champions League.
Everton weren't bad in the first half but defended poorly as Newcastle cashed in virtually all of their decent chances. Thierno Barry had a goal overturned by VAR in the second half before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall ruined Aaron Ramsdale's clean sheet.
The Toffees' unbeaten run ends at three, their 18 points leaving them 14th. Newcastle climb into 11th with the same amount of points thanks almost exclusively to the goal differential swing from this result.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall goal (video) — Everton 1-4 Newcastle
Spectacular technique from Dewsbury-Hall.
The Everton man stays hot, taking down James Tarkowski's long pass with a delicate touch and setting himself up for a close-range finish to Ramsdale's left.
Thierno Barry goal disallowed
A center forward scoring for Everton!?!
Will it stand? Barry mistimes his header and it hits his arm, dropping onto his path.

Malick Thiaw brace goal (video) — Everton 0-4 Newcastle
The Magpies are cruising now.
Woltemade sees a good shot from close range saved by Pickford, but the visitors keep coming forward.
Lewis Hall's swerved cross from the left is smashed home by the head of Thiaw, an unlikely brace bagger.
Toffees screamer off bar
Everton have a corner and it rolls back to Carlos Alcaraz, who has a full 25 yards to run onto the ball outside the 18.
He hits the ball so hard and it absolutely pummels the cross bar, rocketing high into the air and hanging there for seconds.

One sub at the break
Charly Alcaraz takes the place of Iroegbunam, who struggled in the first half.
Halftime — Everton 0-3 Newcastle United
Young Lewis Miley has been everywhere with a goal, an assist, 20-of-21 passes, three recoveries, and 2-of-2 duels.

Everton certainly missing the suspended Gana Gueye today.
Nick Woltemade goal (video) — Everton 0-3 Newcastle
Like a young, scraggly-bearded Harry Kane.
Nick Woltemade's at it again as Anthony Elanga gets the better of Timothy Iroegbunam and chops the ball onto the path of a somehow-unmarked center forward.

Some finish.
Lewis Miley goal (video) — Everton 0-2 Newcastle
Jordan Pickford errors are rare of late but this is certainly a flub.
Newcastle win a few loose balls in Everton's end and Lewis Miley slashes a bouncing shot toward the keeper.
Pickford can't figure it out, putting two hands near the bounce but missing it for the second-straight Newcastle goal.
Toffees much-improved after concession
Newcastle got a little sloppy after their early goal, and Everton have grown into som dangerous places.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe final ball is still missing and center forward play continues to loom over their team but if Thierno Barry is running his socks off and giving the Toffees hope of an equalizer with playmaker Jack Grealish buzzing about the left side.
Malick Thiaw goal (video) — Everton 0-1 Newcastle
The Magpies cash in the corner kick as Malick Thiaw heads powerfully through the arms of Jordan Pickford!

First-minute chance!
Nick Woltemade sends the blazing Anthony Elanga toward goal, and the Swede's shot is not full force.

Aaron Ramsdale starts after all
There was talk that Nick Pope could lose his spot due to play but Newcastle are saying the keeper was injured in training.
In any event, loanee Aaron Ramsdale gets the start between the sticks. He has the reputation to hang onto the gig.
Eddie Howe also hands starts to Lewis Miley and Anthony Elanga, as Sandro Tonali gets a rest and Elanga gets a chance to thrive as Anthony Gordon has not been at his best.
Fans would've wanted to see more of Miley and Elanga. Lots to like here.
Iroegbunam takes place of suspended Gana Gueye
The slap seen around the Premier League will cost Idrissa Gana Gueye three games.

Everton vs Newcastle preview
The Toffees have kept Premier League foes off the board for 244-straight minutes, a mark made more impressive by the final 61 minutes of that stretch occurring with 10 men at Old Trafford thanks to Idrissa Gana Gueye’s slap of a teammate.
Eddie Howe's Newcastle have some obstacles to overcome should they want to win a second-straight Premier League match, namely their poor away form. The Magpies are 8W-3L at St. James' Park in all competitions this season, their lone losses coming versus Barcelona, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Away from SJP? How does 1W-3D-5L look, with the only win coming as a significant favorite over Belgium's Union Saint-Gilloise.

Everton vs Newcastle prediction
Everton are winless in their last four meetings with the Magpies, though of course this is the first time they'll meet the Toffees' still-sparkling Hill Dickinson Stadium. Newcastle did play Tuesday in Marseille, so there are travel effects to consider, but they also used Nick Woltemade, Anthony Elanga, and Lewis Hall for a total of about 90 minutes while not using Sven Botman nor Joelinton. If rotation's the idea, they should be ready, and Everton played Monday to boot. This will be a tussle, but Newcastle have more and perhaps even superior finishers. Gana Gueye is a big miss for the hosts, but on the bright side Jordan Pickford is in great form and loves a game versus Newcastle. Everton 1-2 Newcastle United.
