Jonathan Tah has been one of the most criticized players in Germany over the last 10 years. Massive potential but never really put it all together. That all changed when he linked up with Xabi Alonso for one of the most memorable, if not, the most memorable performance in Bundesliga history as Die Werkself went invincible domestically in the 2023/2024 season.
Tah was a massive part of that team and it seemed like he would finally reach his potential. Fast forward to this season, as Tah has joined Bayern Munich but was criticized very early in the season for being a bust and not the caliber of a Bayern defender.

The 3-1 win over St. Pauli on Saturday was a great example of this as the German had perhaps the busiest and most involved performance of his career. According to Sofascore, Tah’s 177 touches was enough for the most touches across Europe’s top 5 leagues this season in one match. On top of this, Tah had the second-most accurate passes in one match across Europe’s top 5 leagues this season.
What a performance by Tah. While stats don’t show everything, it is clear that Tah has cemented his role in this Bayern squad and if both him and Upamecano are in top form, this side can achieve some serious titles this season under Kompany.
