Bischof had a near perfect display with the U21s in November. Enough to earn him a call to Nagelsmann’s side?

Tom Bischof has had an odd last year. Bischof burst onto the scene as one of Germany’s brightest young talents at Hoffenheim, and after an excellent year, played for Germany at the Nations League Finals in Munich and Stuttgart. Just months later, he finds himself playing for the U21s and sitting mostly on Bayern Munich’s bench. At a glance, one might write Bischof off as a bust, but anyone watching Bischof play knows he is anything but a bust.

Bischof has been incredible when called upon by the U21s and Bayern Munich, but it with the quality in Germany and Bayern Munich’s midfield, he has been withheld to a secondary role, for now. It is highly anticipated that this will change as Bischof has impressed in nearly every opportunity given to him.

Bischof has his eyes on some major accomplishments in the near future, and it is not surprising given his talent. Bischof recently was asked whether he’s thinking about the World Cup next summer.

“Of course. It would be a dream to be there. To achieve that, I need to give it my all here and get enough playing time at the club. Maybe then I can show my qualities and convince the national team coach,” Bischof told @ransport, as captured via @iMiaSanMia.

The Bayern Munich midfielder will have to compete with the likes of Leon Goretzka, Felix Nmecha, and Aleksander Pavlović, who are all having successful seasons this far and have significantly more top level experience under the belt. It will be hard for Nagelsmann to throw Bischof into World Cup match time without serious match fitness at the club level, but there is plenty of season to go and things could change quickly.

If Julian Nagelsmann wants to give the youth a chance, there is no one better to give the opportunity than Tom Bischof, although Said El Mala and Lennart Karl have been just as good in their own rights. With some serious youth talent breaking into Die Mannschaft we might see a change of the guard at next year’s tournament. Will Germany miss experienced players such as Toni Kroos, Thomas Müller, Ilkay Gundogan, and Manuel Neuer, or is the next generation ready to make a statement?
