Why did Lane Kiffin yell at reporter following the Egg Bowl?
As he was leaving the field on Friday, Kiffin turned around and confronted reporter Ben Garrett, who works for "The Ole Miss Spirit, an On3-operated fan site.
"You want to walk in here and call me a h—? We'll see how it goes," Kiffin said, referencing comments made by Garrett on a podcast earlier in the week. Before Garrett could say much, Kiffin turned around and marched to the locker room.
Speaking about the saga that has some Ole Miss fans convinced Lane Kiffin is set to leave despite a surefire playoff bid, Garrett said, “Can’t turn a h— into a housewife. H—s don’t act right.”
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe line comes directly from Ludacris’ 1999 song “Ho.” While Ludacris likely never envisioned the lyric being used in this context, Garrett’s reference was an obvious nod to Kiffin’s tendency not to stay in one place for long.
At six years, Kiffin’s stint at Ole Miss is by far his longest as a head coach, surpassing his four years at USC, three at FAU, two with the Raiders and one at Tennessee. He was fired by the Raiders and at USC rather than leaving on his own.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Kiffin said he understands scrutiny from the media but called Garrett's language a "different level of stuff."
As Kiffin weighs a reported offer from LSU, he found one way to briefly divert attention from his future with Friday’s postgame confrontation.

What did Ben Garrett say about Lane Kiffin?
Speaking about the possibility of Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss for another opportunity, Garrett said on a podcast, “Can’t turn a h— into a housewife. H—s don’t act right.”
That line, a quote from a 1999 Ludacris song, evidently made its way back to Kiffin, who didn’t forget about it despite a tidal wave of questions and speculation about his future throughout the week leading up to the Egg Bowl.
After the interaction, Garrett didn’t seem to have any regrets. “Dude sought me out postgame on the field ’cause he got in his feelings about a Ludacris line,” Garrett said in an online post.
