Alabama basketball closed out the Players Era Festival with just nine roster members from which to choose, and the Crimson Tide is at risk of being short-staffed again when it meets Clemson in the SEC/ACC Challenge.

Tarleton State transfer forward Keitenn Bristow was out for Alabama's Las Vegas finale against Maryland with a right leg injury, joining Latrell Wrightsell Jr. on the bench after it was announced earlier in the week that the veteran guard would be out for the entirety of the tournament.

After a 105-72 win over the Terrapins on Wednesday, Nov. 26, coach Nate Oats said that Bristow's availability would be determined after an MRI once the team got back to Tuscaloosa, but he also shared an update on Wrightsell's status.

While the TNT broadcast suggested that Wrightsell's leg injury wasn't "serious" and that not playing him was more of a precautionary effort, what Oats said about when the only remaining piece of Alabama's Final Four run might return didn't breed much confidence.

"Trelly’s coming. He’s hoping to play next week," Oats said.

Oats said that whether Wrightsell takes the floor against the Tigers will ultimately be determined by the team's athletic trainer, Clarke Holter.

Before suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon against Oregon in the Players Era Festival championship last November, Wrightsell began the 2024-25 season as a regular starter at the three spot in the lineup. However, he didn't return to the starting five until Alabama played Illinois on Nov. 19.

Wrightsell was still working at getting to 100% during exhibition play, not appearing until Alabama played Furman, and he had another injury against the Paladins. That time, it was his finger. During practice in the days that followed, Wrightsell aggravated that finger injury, which saw him on the bench for Alabama's season opener against North Dakota.

There was another scare when Alabama traveled to New York to face St. John's. Wrightsell hobbled off the court after banking a 3 in the second half, but it was later said that he was just dealing with cramping, as he returned to the court to finish out the game.

However, since that St. John's game, Wrightsell's shooting − the best part of his game on Alabama's historic run to the Final Four − has seen a decline. After going 50% from deep and over 46% from the field in the win at St. John's, Wrightsell went 2-for-9 against Purdue and 2-for 5 against Illinois. In his last two games, Wrightsell has gone a combined 2-for-10 beyond the arc.

Alabama has a break until Wednesday, Dec. 3, when it meets Clemson in a rematch of the 2024 Elite Eight game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
