The Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State came with some fireworks beyond the intense, ongoing speculation over Lane Kiffin’s future.

Rebels and Bulldogs players were involved in a tussle during the teams’ annual rivalry matchup on Friday, Nov. 28 at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi.

The extracurricular activity occurred with 3:28 remaining in the second quarter after Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss appeared to be stripped by Mississippi State linebacker Malick Sylla on a second-and-8 from the Bulldogs’ 39-yard line.

Mississippi State recovered the ball, but as the teams fought for possession, shoves were exchanged. As the face-off intensified and roped in more players, Rebels and Bulldogs coaches ran on to the field to try to break up the fight.

Ole Miss wide receiver Deuce Alexander and offensive lineman Delano Townsend, as well as Sylla, were assessed offsetting personal foul penalties. No players were ejected after the scrum.

Chambliss’ fumble was ruled an incomplete pass after a video review, though the Rebels were unable to convert the ensuing third down and punted.

Ole Miss is aiming to improve to 11-1, which would tie a program single-season record for wins, while effectively locking up a spot in the College Football Playoff. Mississippi State, meanwhile, is looking to obtain bowl eligibility for the first time since 2022.
