FOXBOROUGH — While there is some uncertainty surrounding who will take the field for the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, there is one player that the New England Patriots know for sure will be sidelined.
Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase was suspended for one game due to an incident he was involved in, where he was captured on video spitting on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey in last week's game. Ramsey was ejected from the game for throwing a punch, but after the game, he revealed that he only reacted this way because Chase spat on him. The wide receiver denied that he did that, but the video proof was enough for the NFL to make this decision. And while he appealed it, the decision was upheld.
So knowing that Chase will miss the team's matchup against the Patriots, many began asking starting cornerbacks Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis how this changes the game plan.
When speaking with Patriots Wire, the two provided some very interesting insight into this.
"I don't even know how to answer that because he's just not playing this week," Davis explained. "It's not like he was about to play... We do know that if he was playing, we would have had a game plan for him, but he was ruled out before we got a chance to get in the building.
"The coaches, they've got a game plan, they give it to us, and then we execute it. So from that standpoint, when we came in, he was already out and we're just moving forward."
Gonzalez echoed those sentiments.
"It just happened to be that he's out," he added. "Whoever's the next team, we're going to get ready for them, and that happened to happen, and so we're focused on who's going to be on the field and things like that."
But even without Chase, the Patriots know that they will have their hands full with the Bengals' offense
"They like more pass heavy," Davis said. "They do have a lot of talent in the receiving room. It's one of their strongest position groups. So we still got to have a game plan for them and we're have a game plan to win."
