The greatest 21st century Western movie remake of all time has lassoed itself a new streaming home at just the right time. Some of the greatest Western movies of the 21st century are original works inspired by gun-slinging tales of decades past. From Django Unchained to Hell or High Water, these films owe inspiration to Westerns of the past.
However, one of the greatest modern Westerns is a direct remake of an original. 2010's True Grit is a remake of the Oscar-winning 1969 film of the same name, starring John Wayne. The remake sees Jeff Bridges take on his role, co-starring with Hailee Steinfeld and Matt Damon. The remake was a critical and commercial success, scoring 10 Oscar nominations.
Now, the 2010 rendition of True Grit will be arriving on Paramount+ on Monday, December 1. The Western remake's approaching arrival on its new streaming home comes at the perfect time, with the film celebrating its 15th anniversary on the same month. This makes it the perfect time to rewatch the film, or see it for the first time.

While True Grit is a remake of the 1969 movie, the Coen brothers, who wrote and directed the film, wanted it to be more in line with the 1968 novel by Charles Portis. This included a number of differences from the original John Wayne Western movie that made it stand out. Luckily, this approach paid off for the film's response.
True Grit made $252.3 million at the box office against a budget of $35 million to $38 million. It also holds a Certified Fresh 95% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, which praises the movie for its performances and accuracy to the book. In addition, it's often credited with revitalizing the Western genre for modern audiences.
While it's not the only streaming home the movie has, since it's also available on Netflix and Tubi, the 2010 Western fits perfectly among Paramount+'s lineup of shows and movies. This includes the Western setting of Taylor Sheridan shows like 1883, 1923, and Landman, alongside newer Western films, such as 2021's Old Henry.
With its arrival on Paramount+ just days away, True Grit has a chance to thrive on the platform because of its historical milestone, historical reception, and the content it'll be sharing the platform with. As the best modern remake of a classic Western, it deserves to be viewed by as many potential audience members as possible.
