Much like Penn State's high hopes for the 2025 season, the Class of 2026's recruiting cycle has taken a wild detour off the tracks for the Nittany Lions. Accustomed to signing top-15 classes for the past decade, the Nittany Lions are looking to have a rough time on the recruiting trail as the early signing period approaches.
Penn State's Class of 2026 at one point reached as high as No. 6 in the nation in the recruiting rankings. But an in-season coaching change, seeing James Franklin removed and ultimately taking over at Virginia Tech, has had a significant impact on Penn State's Class of 2026 recruiting cycle. A number of players previously committed to the Nittany Lions have backed off their commitments, and a number have decided to follow Franklin to Virginia Tech.

The odds are pretty good Penn State will have some work to do for its next head coach to make the most of the traditional signing period and the transfer portal to get through this recruiting cycle.
Here is an updated look at Penn State's Class of 2026. This was last updated on November 28, 2025.
