It can be fun to get a little crazy from time to time.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThat's what MLB.com writer Anthony Castrovince has done in his latest article. How crazy? He's lined up a three-time trade idea that involves Tarik Skubal, Paul Skenes and five top prospects.
In the trade, the New York Mets get Tarik Skubal.
The Detroit Tigers get Paul Skenes.
And the Pirates get five great prospects: Jett Williams, Jonah Tong, Jacob Reimer, Max Clark and Bryce Rainer.

If you're looking for a trade that would break the baseball portion of the Internet, it's this one.
Castrovince lays out this thinking:
If the Tigers trade Skubal, then the Mets are the perfect fit. But unless the Mets were to move Rookie of the Year candidate Nolan McLean in such a deal, it’s hard to see a deal where the Tigers could still be taken seriously as a World Series contender.
Somehow getting Skenes would sure do the trick.
Here, I can’t stress enough that we’re trying to have some fun with these ideas and that we don’t actually expect the Pirates to deal Skenes (I’m also still skeptical the Tigers actually deal Skubal, but we’ll see).
This, however, is a scenario in which you could reasonably argue that the Tigers and Pirates are properly taking advantage of the trade value of their respective aces.

The Mets get a bonafide ace for their present contention timeline.
And, well, the Pirates try to jump start their rebuild with a host of potential future starting position players.
Will it happen? Seems highly unlikely.
But wow, would it be fun.
