Guardians News and Notes: Daddy Gone-Legs

Sam Hentges signed on a major league deal with the San Francisco Giants yesterday, reportedly for around $1.3M.

There are three potential options here: 1. It’ll take Hentges some time to be game-ready but the Giants believe they can carry him for that while the Guardians did not. 2. The Guardians believe Hentges is likely not going to return as an effective reliever. The Giants disagree. 3. The Guardians misjudged Hentges’ value because they are being cheap.

Past performance would indicate the Giants understand when to move on from a pitcher so that would be my inclination for now. We will see how it goes. Either way, we’ll miss seeing Daddy Long-legs dominate in a Guardians’ uniform and we wish him the best.
