Despite the setback, Inter remain well-positioned for European progression.

According to Football Rankings, 10 points are generally enough to guarantee a place among the top 24 in the competition, though nine points might suffice.

Securing a spot in the top eight, which grants a direct route to the Round of 16, typically requires 17 points, though 16 may prove sufficient depending on other results.

This means Inter are already assured of a place in the playoff round, keeping them in the hunt for the knockout stages.

With three matches remaining, against Liverpool, Arsenal, and Borussia Dortmund, they will need just four or five points to lock in a direct Round of 16 berth.

Chivu can take some reassurance from the numbers: the Nerazzurri have kept themselves in control despite the dramatic loss in Madrid.
